The customer conducts price risk management and energy trading activities. The customer is a regulated company that has a fiduciary responsibility to protect the data stored in the SAP environment and ensure that it will be available in case of unforeseen disasters. The SAP environment was at risk with serious disruption to their business processes if a catastrophe happened to the primary data center. The customer needed to update the SAP environment to provide a capability for a second site disaster recovery (DR) solution. The challenge was to design and deploy a disaster recovery solution in a SAP/Oracle/Windows Server environment, that minimizes downtime in the event of a disaster.
The core SAP applications used by the customer include purchasing, shipping, invoicing, delivery, sales orders, production planning, portal, and business warehouse/analytics support.
WFT accomplished the design and deployment of the SAP Disaster recovery solution by leveraging the firm’s deep SAP/Oracle and infrastructure knowledge. The project scope was to build the SAP landscape at DR site and design and deploy a disaster recovery solution with minimal impact to production.
The WFT team conducted an onsite workshop with the customer to understand their landscape design and the interdependencies between the different SAP components. WFT also met the business owners to understand the RTO/RPO requirements. Based on this information, WFT advised the customer in the selection of hardware for the SAP landscape at DR site and assisted in the build of the environment. SAP installation for multiple modules was done within a segmented VLAN prior to starting the unit testing. EMC’s SRDF replication software was integrated with SAP/Oracle to provide a consistent copy of the data at all times at the remote site.
WFT created and tested a consolidated SAP environment with a capability to fail over services to a remote data center in another region of the country to protect critical business data to ensure the customer can continue to meet their business objective in the event of a major outage at the primary site. This also enabled the customer to meet their RTO/RPO requirements.
